School Counselor Services

Classroom Counseling Lessons

I visit each classroom every three weeks and lead lessons on positive character traits, including being safe, respectful and responsible, by using games, books, and role plays. (Counseling calendar coming soon!)

Small Group Counseling

Some children meet in small groups with me to work through problems or feelings they may be experiencing. Some small group topics include dealing with divorce, promoting positive self-esteem, building social skills, and motivational issues. In the primary grades, small groups typically consist of basic social skills.

These topics are dealt with through artwork, role-playing, games, books, and discussions. Groups are mainly held during lunchtime but can vary on the grade level. Groups will be held once a week for six weeks or twice a week for three weeks.

Individual Meetings

Referrals for individual students may be made by staff, parents, or students themselves about situations that may arise. I will meet with the student to understand their needs, give support and offer constructive suggestions. If additional support is needed, I will reach out to the family to provide local resources.

Consultation

Conferences are held with parents, teachers, and administrators to facilitate the development of appropriate services for students.

Assessment

The counselor coordinates the Advanced Academics program (Gifted and Talented), which includes assessing the student’s skills and organizing the components of the student’s profile. Additionally, I am also the coordinator for TELPAS - the English language proficiency assessment.
